How Time Duration Is Calculated

The calculation follows these steps:
- Convert both start time and end time to a common format (24-hour time, with full date).
- Subtract seconds from seconds, minutes from minutes, hours from hours, days from days.
- If any unit goes negative, borrow from the next larger unit. This is the carryover method.
- Account for months with different lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days) and leap year rules from the Gregorian Calendar.
Calculating durations across midnight and multiple days
When a time duration crosses midnight, the end time appears "earlier" than the start time on a 12-hour clock. A shift from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM looks like it goes backward, but it's actually 8 hours forward.
